Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers Drop Saturday Game to Ouachita Baptist

Northwestern Oklahoma fell Saturday afternoon 83-75 to Ouachita Baptist. The Tigers were able to use a 10-0 run early in the second half to gain an eight point lead at 42-34 in which they would not lose that lead.

The Rangers fall to 6-6 on the season with a 2-6 record in conference play.

Malik Parson led the Rangers with 29 points Saturday afternoon one of three players in double figures joined by Kennedy Milton with 13 along with four steals and Larry White with 10 points.

FIRST HALF:

Parson got the scoring started with a quick driving layup off the opening tip-off before completing the three point play at the line. Parson followed the opening possession with a steal and another layup for a quick 5-0 lead. A Butters dunk and Douglas-Stanley jumper had the Rangers out in front early 9-2. Northwestern held an 11-6 advantage at the first commercial timeout of the half.

Out of the break Milton hit his first shot of the game for a 13-6 lead. Ouachita Baptist started to close the gap cutting the Rangers lead down to three on a layup from Haynes. Hancik and Parsons scored back to back, helping push the Rangers back in front 18-12. After a three minute scoring drought by both teams Martin for the Tigers finished a layup to cut the Ranger lead to 20-16.

Chance Love off the bench hit a three pointer assisted by Kennedy Milton to keep the Rangers out in front now 24-19. Ouachita kept inching closer until a pull up jump shot by Haynes pushed them out in front 29-28 with 2:17 left in the first half.

Milton and Parsons teamed up to tie the game in the final five seconds of the first half on a steal by Milton leading to Parsons layup for a 32-32 tie at halftime.

Second Half:

Larry White opened the scoring for the second half giving the Rangers the lead at 34-32. However the Tigers then went on a 10-0 run to take a 42-34 lead over the Rangers. Parsons ended the Tiger run putting the Rangers back on the board trailing 42-36. The Tigers answered back, extending their lead to double digits for the first time at 48-38. The Tigers held their lead into the under 12 media timeout.

Out of hte timeout the Rangers tried to close the gap on a Hancik and Free jump shot cutting the deficit to five at 53-48. The Tigers pushed their lead back to nine at 57-48. Ouachita held the nine point lead just under eight minutes. Brian Free answered back with a three to cut the deficit to five at 59-54. The teams would trade shots keeping it a five point gap before two Milton foul shots were able to cut it to 63-60. From here the Tigers were able to extend their lead back to eight at 69-61.

Northwestern trailed 69-63 at the final media timeout. Out of the break the Tigers hit two foul shots out of the break 70-63 lead. Milton cut the gap to six with a three pointer with 2:07 left but that was the closest Northwestern was able to cut the deficit to Saturday before losing 83-75.
