Northwestern Oklahoma State University Close Game on 8-0 Run to Beat Cameron

Northwestern Oklahoma State snapped their three game losing streak Tuesday evening with a 74-66 win over Cameron University. The Rangers used a late 8-0 run and a 10-2 run to steal the victory on the road.

The win improves the Rangers record to 4-3 on the season as Cameron drops to 2-8 on the season. Northwestern's win completes the season sweep over the Aggies. 

Brian Free led the Rangers with 23 points knocking down five three pointers, while Shavaul Butters led the team with nine rebounds while scoring 14 points. Malik Parsons, Larry White, and Jason Douglas-Stanley all scored in double figures for the Rangers in the win.

FIRST HALF:

Butters opened the game for Northwestern with a layup off the glass from a pass from Larry White to give the Rangers an early 2-0 advantage. Cameron answered back before a 4-0 run forced an early timeout from the home team.Butters scored six of the first eight points of the game as Northwestern carried an 8-6 lead into the first commercial timeout. Out of the break the Aggies went on a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game bringing their lead to 12-8. Northwestern answered back with five straight to take a 13-12 lead following a three from Brian Free after Jason Douglas-Stanley knocked down a jumper off the offensive rebound. Once again though the Aggies had the answer with 10 straight points building their largest lead to that point in the game at 22-13.

Free hit his second three of the night to end the Aggie run and bring the Rangers back within two possessions. The Rangers continued to chip back into the deficit as Parsons foul shots and a Larry White layup had the Rangers back within four. After a couple of turnovers the Rangers took advantage of a Chance Love offensive rebound that led to his own layup to have the score at 27-24 with four minutes left in the half. Free hit his third three of the half as the Rangers within one but the Aggies answered back pushing the lead back to five. Parsons knocked down a triple for his seventh point of the half as the Rangers trailed 34-32 heading into halftime.SECOND HALF:

Rangers had the first points of the second half as Free knocked down one technical foul shot given to Cameron at the end of the first half. Larry White knocked down a layup to tie the score at 37 but Cameron answered back with a 9-0 run to take a 46-37 lead over the Rangers. The lead grew to 10, Cameron's largest lead of the game before Northwestern climbed back. Butter finished a layup assisted by Kennedy Milton. White followed with a layup before a Parsons three had Northwestern back within five at 52-47. Free got the Rangers within two with his fourth three of the game at 54-52 before Jason Douglas-Stanley tied the game at 55 with a triple of his own. Shavaul Butter gave Northwestern their first lead since the 13:35 mark in the first half. Cameron tied the game at 61-61 into the final four minutes of the game.

Free continued to knock down shots hitting his fifth three of the game taking a 64-61 lead. With the game locked at 66-66 Douglas-Stanley knocked down the three for a three point advantage before the Ranger defense forced a turnover. Free hit five foul shots down the stretch as the Rangers forced three turnovers in the closing minutes to close out the 74-66 victory and an 8-0 run to end the game.

Northwestern snaps their three game losing streak with the win heading into Saturday's conference game against Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday with a 7:30 tip-off following the Lady Rangers game at 5:30.
