Oklahoma Baptist University King Garners Weekly GAC Honor

After steering the Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team to a 2-0 start to GAC play, Paul King was named the Great American Conference Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

King is the first recipient of the weekly conference honor for the Bison this season.

The sophomore averaged 27.0 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting in the wins over Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. He led OBU from the free throw line, netting 22-24, a 91.7 percent shooting rate. Additionally, he tied for the team-high in steals (6) and conceded just three turnovers.

King posted a career-high of 36 points against the Bulldogs, shooting a scorching 68.8 percent from the field. It was the most points scored by a Bison since Burke Putnam put up 38 points against Southern Arkansas last February.King finished Thursday night's tear against SWOSU with an 11-12 showing at the charity stripe and a match of his career-best in steals (4).

The Monroe, La. native coupled the performance with an 18-point outburst against NWOSU. King drew eight fouls en route to another 11-12 finish at the free-throw line. He added two steals and three assists on the night.

This season, King averages 20.0 points per game while shooting a little under 40 percent and leads OBU in assists (29). Furthermore, his 34 free throw makes rank first in the GAC.
