Oklahoma Baptist University Frierson, Leslie Lead OBU Over Muleriders

D'Erricka Frierson and Jill Leslie each hit over .478 and tallied double-digit kill totals to help Oklahoma Baptist defeat Southern Arkansas 3-1 on Thursday in Great American Conference action.

Frierson registered 17 kills and a career-high .536 attack mark while Leslie tied her career-high with 13 kills and added a .478 percentage. Also of note, Audrey Poupard added nine kills and a .500 attack percentage.

With that, OBU won its seventh straight and improved to 13-8 and 7-1 in the GAC.

Midway through the first, Taneyah Brown's kill had the Bison leading 14-13. However, a small spurt by SAU, a 5-0 run to be exact, gave the Muleriders enough cushion to keep them ahead. Lauryn Moultrie had a pair of block assists in that small stretch as the Muleriders eventually won 25-21. OBU aided the hosts with eight attack errors.

Down 1-0, the Bison came back to tie the match in the second. In fact, they hit a solid .371 to win 25-17. Leslie had a trio of kills in the stanza and connected on .545 of her attacks after two frames. Just like the first, the scoreboard was tied at 14-all before the Bison pulled ahead.

The green and gold scored seven of the next eight points, highlighted by a couple of kills by Poupard and an ace from Maci Langford. The last of those, Langford's ace, moved the tally to 21-15.

With the match tied, OBU carried its second-set momentum into the third. A 5-0 start included three kills by Frierson. Just a little while after, Leslie recorded back-to-back service aces to extend the advantage to 10-2. At that point, the green and gold were hitting an incredible .700 as compared to -.091 by SAU.

By the end, OBU had won 25-8 and took a 2-1 match lead into the fourth.

After an early tussle in the final set, OBU's Jenna West and Avery Hellmuth each notched a couple kills to help the Bison go up 10-6. That lead ballooned to 22-13 as Poupard and Hellmuth aided the visitors to its biggest point advantage, 22-13. OBU eventually won 25-18.
