The 2022 Seminole State soccer team has started the season off in good fashion with 7 straight wins, 5 of which have come in conference play. After an extremely difficult preseason in which the Trojans played 3 NCAA Division 2 schools and 1 NCAA Division 1 school, the Trojans had their first official regular season game on their new field on August 28th against Eastern Oklahoma State. The game would be close until 60 minutes into the second half, when SSC finished 5 goals in the last 30 minutes to make the score line 6-1. Tatum Tallal would score the first two goals at the new field and of the regular season after the Trojans found themselves down a goal early. Marisol, Chelsea, Jada, and Mady would each garner 1 goal.
The ladies then travelled to Crowder College in Missouri for their first away game. SSC scored 10 goals in the first half to end up with a 14-0 victory. Chelsea Vilca and Jada Ryan each scored 4 goals in that game. Marisol Gomez and Aya Wyatt each had 2, Savanna Puccio 1 and Mady Castro 1
The next game the Trojans traveling to Butler in Kansas to feature two of the top teams in the nation. SSC being ranked #3 and Butler being ranked #6 nationally while also posting 4 wins already against top 15 programs. The game was very balanced and well fought by both teams. Butler would score first, before Seminole would answer with two consecutive goals from Aya Wyatt and Stormie Ramsey. Butler tied the game in the 83rd minute. Overtime would ensue with Natalie Montanez finding the game winning shot in the first OT.
The fourth game of the year would find the Trojans traveling to NEO in Miami, OK. The ladies started fast in that game scoring the first four goals in the first 11 minutes. Samantha Bayer had 4 goals in the game, followed by 3 each for Chelsea and Jada, 2 from Marisol, and 1 from Savanna.
In the fifth game, the Trojans welcomed Redlands to Seminole. A 2-0 game at halftime finished 9-0 at the end of 90 minutes. 3 goals by Jada, 2 each from Chelsea and Nanako Seki, 1 each from Mady and Savanna.
This last week would find the Trojans in two big contests with NOC Tonkawa at home and Rose State on the road. The NOC game would be decided in the 25th minute when Chelsea Vilca received a pass from Natalie Montanez, which she then shot and scored to give the Trojans a 1-0 win.
The seventh game saw the Trojans back on the road to play Rose State in Midwest City. Several opportunities were stopped by the Rose gk to keep the game scoreless at half. In the 55th minute, Mady Castro would receive a pass from Aya Wyatt. She turned and shot the ball. After a ricochet off a Rose defender would see the ball in the back of the net. 3 minutes later Tatum Tallal would hit the post on a shot, but Savanna would be there to finish and score the game's final goal.
The defense and goalkeepers have given up only 3 goals in the 7 games so far, including 5 shutouts.
Currently, the Trojans sit atop the conference standings with a 5-0 record, 7-0 overall for the season. The next game will be played on Wednesday at 12:30pm when Arkansas-Rich Mountain visits Seminole.
