No. 1-ranked (United Soccer Coaches) Dallas Baptist had its way against the Oklahoma Baptist Bison on Saturday, winning 4-0 at the OBU Soccer Complex. With the result, the green and gold dropped their record to 1-5 while DBU remained unbeaten at 4-0.
The most noticeable difference was shots taken. DBU attempted 33 to the Bison's three.
Thanks to an assist by DBU's Kathryn Mullis, a lower-left goal by Rachel Allen gave the Patriots a leg-up on the Bison within the first two minutes. On the visitor's third attempt, junior goalie Mia Pendleton saved the day with a block resulting in a corner kick.
Later, Pendleton denied two consecutive shots from DBU's offense to keep the score at 1-0. That 1-0 advantage lasted for over 20 minutes. In that time, freshman Krissy Fulton provided the team's first shot on goal.
The rest of the first stanza consisted of another DBU goal by Sophia Schrock with an assist by Angelina Olmos. Pendleton did her part though, recording five first-half saves.
Two fouls by the visitors resulted in a pair of free kicks for the Bison. However, both kicks warranted no good shot attempts and at the halftime whistle, the scoreboard showed a 2-0 Patriot lead.
The second half was jump-started by a DBU missed shot by Gabrielle Wiebe. But the Patriots' next attempt in the high-right corner was delivered by Haley Roberson in the 49th minute. That boosted the visitor's lead to 3-0.
OBU found just one more shot, one that sailed from the leg of Fulton in the game's 80th minute. There were also a few more free kicks, but none were fruitful.
In goal, Ireland Jeffrey got the last 45 minutes of action and came up with a trio of saves.
Next on the schedule for the green and gold is an away game set for Sept. 22 against GAC school Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Ark., at 1 p.m.
