Concert pianist Dr. Peter Simon will entertain area residents at a free public concert Tuesday, October 25, 2022, on Seminole State College’s campus. The “Music and Poetry of Love” program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Utterback Ballroom of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center.

The event is presented by the SSC Educational Foundation and dedicated to the memory of Jasmine Moran for her love and support of the arts in Seminole.

Simon’s performance will feature sounds from Chopin, Shumann, and Liszt. He will also recite romantic poetry by Shakespeare, Wadsworth, Browning and the Old and New Testaments. The concert is scheduled to last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.

Simon’s achievements and recognitions as an international concert pianist include performances in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and at the Oklahoma Mozart Festival.

Simon has consistently loved and performed music since he was six years old. His past work experiences not only include being a university professor and artistic director, but also a banker, actor and rock ‘n roll drummer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from Metropolitan State College in Denver, Colorado and a master’s and doctorate in piano from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., studying with William Maselos and Jorge Bolet.

“I try to make others see the expression and the beauty in the music,” Simon said.

Simon is a strong proponent of the belief that classical music is meant for everyone – regardless of age or background, and devotes part of his time to performing for school districts and various civic and social organizations.
