The Great American Conference announced the Oklahoma Baptist women’s golf team as the recipient of the league’s 2021-22 team sportsmanship award, voted on by GAC coaches from respective sports.

This 2021-22 women’s golf squad is the first OBU team to receive the league’s acknowledgment since softball claimed the GAC sportsmanship award in 2017.

“I am very proud of these young ladies,” said Bison head coach Mike Manlapig. “This group embodies the OBU mission: to integrate faith with all areas of life and live worthy of the high calling of God in Christ.”

The conference announced 15 award winners. Southwestern Oklahoma State saw four programs garner the award, while Harding followed with three. Northwestern Oklahoma State, East Central, and Ouachita earned two, while Northeastern State rounded out the bunch with one.

“These awards tie into the NCAA Division II emphasis on sportsmanship and game environment,” GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said. “We are proud of these institutions that have displayed success on the scoreboard and in ways that aren’t necessarily reflected in wins and losses.”
